A great deal of experience with Desktop Publishing (DTP) systems
and Word Processors. Word for Windows 2, Word 6, Word 97, Word 2000, Pagemaker
3, 4 and 5, Page Plus all versions.
Knowledge of HTML. This whole web site was originally created
using MS Notepad with the output viewed on a browser. I have since bought
Dreamweaver which I now use to edit and update my site and have used in complex
help system development. In December 1999 I attended a Macromedia certified
Dreamweaver training course.
Good all round computer literacy to hardware and programming
level, extensive experience with Windows 3.x and Windows 95, Windows 98 and
Windows 2000 professional and Windows XP.
Publicity skills, including experience of dealing with journalists
(having been one).
Knowledge of advertising (press), having sold advertising space
and worked on small and medium sized newspapers and magazines.
Other marketing strategies, including the little used practice
of Case Study Marketing.
Knowledge of the publishing industry; experience as a small
publisher of books and journals including ISBN/ISSN.
Management skills, including project and team co-ordination,
production control and document control. Project management experience comes
both from the voluntary sector
where resources and budgets are a major consideration and the commercial
environment where other issues might seem to be relevant but in fact the
situation is often very similar.
Wide knowledge of business management practices from direct
experience of freelance work and self employment. This includes time spent
as both a sole trader and director of a VAT registered limited company. I
have a broad interest in business, particularly in the nature of the changes
that have taken place in business over the last twenty years.
Extensive experience of working with local government (borough
and county) having launched the Local Exchange Trading System (LETS)
for Hemel Hempstead and The Langleys; and also Hertfordshire Letslink, networking
LETSystems throughout Hertfordshire. This is work
in the voluntary sector.
Six years degree study with the Open University resulting in
a BSc (Hons) in Psychology having
passed the following courses: An Arts Foundation Course; Introduction to Psychology;
Social Psychology; Child Development; Cognitive Psychology; Biology: Brain
and Behaviour.
