Freelance Work xx Contract Work

Since leaving Rolls-Royce in 1992 I have been working under various freelance and contracting arrangements. In that time I have continued to work as a technical author and copywriter but have also worked on web design and DTP projects.

Over recent years the contract market has been very slow so I have moved back toward freelancing. Freelance work is rather piecemeal, however, this suits me as when I am working from home I prefer to take on small tasks for the sake of variety.

It is worth bearing in mind that I tend to take on just a few projects here and there, as ten years ago I paid my mortgage off and I now have an income from my house so my needs are very small. This is a lifestyle choice which means that I can have plenty of spare time and work less. Hopefully this goes some way to explaining the apparently limited number of projects I have worked over the last ten years.

At the moment I am putting most of my efforts into finishing a novel and at the time of writing I have just afew chapters to go. Once finished I will be starting the hard slog around the agents and publishers to sell the thing. Once I have got this project out of the way I may return to the contracting or freelance market.
